A PAL is an Argentine student who volunteers to be your point of contact before and during your exchange. Think of it as a built-in local friend: someone to answer the small questions that are hard to Google, like which subway exit to use, whether a neighborhood is safe at night, or what to bring to an asado.
Un PAL es un estudiante argentino que se ofrece como voluntario para ser tu contacto antes y durante tu intercambio. How the matching works: fill out the sign-up form with your info and interests. PALS will match you with an Argentine student who has things in common with you. Your PAL will reach out before you arrive, or in your first few days. It's free and optional: most PALS activities are open to everyone, but having a PAL gives you a direct line to a local from day one.

Most international flights land at Ezeiza (EZE), about 40 minutes from the city center (more with traffic). Some regional flights use Aeroparque (AEP), much closer to downtown. Carry some cash (small bills) and a written copy of the accommodation address — screenshots of maps can fail without signal. Landing tired after a long flight is not the moment to haggle: pay the fixed official rate and save the bargain hunting for later.

SUBE is the rechargeable card needed for all public transport: buses (colectivos), subway (subte) and trains. Buy one at any subte station or kiosk displaying the SUBE logo, then top it up ("cargar SUBE") at kiosks, stations or via app. Most transport now also accepts contactless cards or NFC-enabled phones, but a physical SUBE card is still the safer bet for a whole semester.

Your PAL and PALS activities are the fastest way to meet people, both fellow exchange students and Argentines.
